Camp was really awesome. It was my first time seeing camp done from the other side, from a leader perspective. I loved seeing the purpose and the amount of time put into each event the kids do. It made me really appreciate the leaders that I had. One thing I thought was kind of funny was how kids spend there money at camp. Every meal is included in there price for camp so the only things to buy are souvenires or snacks from the snack shack. Kids seem to go a little crazy in th store. They usually have a good amount of money from there parents and that is the only thing to spend it on that is worth anything so they buy alot, and usually too much, stuff there. The store has just about everything with a YoungLife logo on it too so the temptation to get something you may never use is high. One of the girls who came with us bought one of those pretty expensive crumpler bags with a YL logo on it. She probably could have gotten the same one at home for half the price without the YL logo but it was the idea of getting it camp that really drew her in. I think the most ridiculous purchase was one of the guys, Kevin, who went with me. He bought this special dry fit, sun protection t-shirt that had “Rockbridge” on it (that is the name of the camp). He doesn’t really ever work out and he doesn’t need special sun protection and the shirt was like $50. But he had money from his mom and didn’t know what to do with it so he got that. Strange but if that’s what he wants then more power to him. Luckily for me, my birthday was while we were at camp so I got the things that I probably would have bought from a few of my friends who ran to the camp store and got me something on my birthday. It was pretty cool to see how different people spend there money differently.
